WHAT IS A HOME EXTENSION?
Backyard Pod kits have been used to create an attached extension of the main house, making huge savings for the home-owner compared to the normal cost of building an extension. But a home extension is not necessarily ‘attached’ to the primary residence. In some cases, the extension (for planning and approval purposes) could be a Backyard Pod that is ‘connected’ to the main house but not necessarily ‘attached’.
Using Backyard Pods for your home extension could give you a new, open-plan kitchen and family room at the rear of your existing house, a new master wing with a private retreat, guest accommodation with ensuite, a pool room with a bar and shower facilities. We’ve had one customer make four spacious bedrooms and a study for his growing family using one Backyard Pod. Home offices with separate facilities are another popular extension to the main home.
DO I NEED APPROVAL FOR A HOME EXTENSION?
In Australia, any habitable extension of a primary dwelling must be approved and/or certified – whether the extension is attached or merely connected to the main house. We can help you to find out what would be permissible on your site before any pointless waste of time or money.
