Commercial Pods

Backyard Pods are used in a wide variety of commercial contexts on residential/mixed-use and industrial sites. Our modular steel flat-pack building kits provide the most versatile and cost-effective structural solution in Australia.

WHAT IS A COMMERCIAL POD?

A typical commercial pod is used for:

  • business-related activities on a residential block (eg: home-based businesses like catering, hairdressing);
  • commercial or industrial activities on a mixed-use or industrial-zoned site (eg: offices, staff amenities);
  • in the tourism industry (eg: eco-resorts, holiday villages, short-stay accommodation parks);
  • institutions (eg: hospitals, schools, government infrastructure, community housing projects).

Backyard Pods are superior for these purposes compared to other solutions because NO SLAB is needed, the cost of materials and installation is very low, and flat-pack kits can be assembled even in tight spaces where access is extremely restricted. All Backyard Pod kits are engineering-certified Class 1 (approved for habitable use) and can achieve optional N4 Wind Rating.

RELOCATABLE BUILDINGS

Backyard Pods can also be erected on anchored skids (instead of foundations) to allow for easy future relocation. When built on skids, the entire building could be winched onto a flatbed truck and moved to another site.

DO I NEED APPROVAL FOR A COMMERCIAL POD?

Commercial customers are usually more aware of the regulations and constraints pertaining to their site. We are very experienced at the coordination of Backyard Pod projects for commercial purposes, and we’re officially listed with several government departments as providers of flat-pack building kits.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR RESIDENTIAL CUSTOMERS

Many customers with residential-zoned properties haven’t yet realised that running certain businesses from home (eg: hairdressing salons, making food for sale, etc) could require special approvals before you start wondering about what kind of building you might use. Even if you can get approval to run this kind of business from your residential property, there are insurance and taxation implications that you would need to discuss with your accountant ASAP.

Once you know for certain that you’re permitted to run your business on your proposed site before any pointless waste of time or money, and you’re ready to consider options for building, we can help with the most cost-effective solution for your building needs.
